I complained bitterly about having to take today off work because the boy's school had a "teacher in service day". Proven wrong yet again. It was a grand day out, start to finish.
We had a wonderful day out this weekend at the Lincoln Memorial Gardens Indian Summer Festival. This is one of the best local events of the year and it couldn't have been a better day for it.
We met up with Carmen and family upon arrival. These two have been friends since infancy and adore each other still.
They chose new winter hats. How cute are these?
The kids all had pumpkin face paintings.
The Dillman family.
We also saw Griffin and his dad in passing. The boys had a cookie break together.
We went for a wander down by the lake. A beautiful place to walk. Kellan chose to rest on a bench which bore a quote about calmness and moderation which I found particularly amusing.
I worked all weekend. Literally. All three days. So, this afternoon, I decided that it was time to get out and enjoy a bit of the holiday. And give Nic a break. I took Kellan to the zoo and we had a nice time, despite the heat -- notice his shine.
Waiting for fish food to fall from the seemingly giant dispenser.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, but my hair was brushed when we left the house. Before the drive, the chat, the line to sign in (these were done through church this year -- never again), then the wait and the wait and more waiting, including a visit to the very hot and sticky play room with Kellan. And thus, for our annual family portrait, I look like this. A mess. At least the boys are cute!
I am a palynologist, a mother, and a wife -- not necessarily in that order. Recently moved from the UK and currently stranded in the Midwest. Good job in a less than perfect location.
