Legoland

Kel saying "Arg!" and pretending to be a pirate. There's a bit of a pirate theme at Legoland.

He LOVES this train, goes on it over and over again. Yet, no matter how many times he comes around and no matter how many times I call to him so that he might glance at the camera on his way past, this is the best that I can do.

A Day by the Sea

Today we visited the tide pools at Cabrillo National Monument on Point Loma. Kellan LOVED it! We saw both shore and hermit crabs, limpets, goose-necked barnacles, scaled chitons, sea snails, anemones, fish, a lobster, and more. Kel loved climbing around the rocks searching for new shells and crabs.

We also headed for Mission Bay so that Dad could try out his new pirate ship kite. Kel was getting tired at this point and kept shouting, "Its not a kite, its a ship! It needs to go in the water!!!".

Waiting to catch the kite as it comes in for a landing.

Success!

Night Zoo

We spent this evening enjoying Night Zoo and it was a real treat. The animals are so much more active at night, especially in the summertime, and the tourists thin out in the late afternoon, making an evening visit a pleasant and more "local" experience. We stayed for about five hours and had a fantastic time. Dinner was delicious, the animals were happy to interact, the day was cool, the zoo was empty of tourists, and there wasn't even a line for the sky ride. The last was most important to Kel. I'm pretty sure that he only goes to the zoo in hopes of multiple sky ride crossings. Nearly 10pm and I just got Kel to bed. Oh well. Summer vacation, right?

Here are a few photos of Kel playing near the hippo exhibit.

Balboa Park

Our San Diego visit is off to a fun start. We spent yesterday at Balboa Park, enjoying the San Diego Model Railroad Museum and the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. Here are a couple of photos taken at the fountain outside of the science center. A Balboa Park landmark. Off to the beach today.

I love the crazy people behind Kel. What on earth?

A morning at the park

A hot summer morning is meant for enjoying the park. This will probably be our last blog update until returning from San Diego in late August. We will have LOTS of pictures and updates to share then.

"See" you in a month. We're ready to pack and get out of here. Won't think about Springfield again until we drive back into town and have no other choice. Such is life...

Best Buddies

Kellan and Carmen before a morning at the water park this week. I love watching them interact. They enjoy each other's company so much. And manage to spend over 9 hours together each Tuesday without any visible scars! When you're three, that's saying a lot...

Heir to the Evans Throne

He is the only grandson. The only grandchild on either side. I see history in those features. I see my cousin, my grandfather, and a young Nic. I see a bit of my mom, a bit of Nic's dad. Some children heavily favour one parent or the other, a carbon copy, but not this one. He isn't me and he isn't Nic. He is Welsh and he is English and he is American. He is the hopes and dreams of a family on both sides of the Atlantic. Three years old and the journey has just begun. The future and the past come together in one boy.

We did it!

I watch too much Dora. But, seriously, lo hicimos! Guess who is officially potty trained? Day and night. We moved into underwear last Sunday. He had a total of four accidents (two during one park trip!) as he adjusted to letting us know when he needs go while out and about. All very minor and quickly caught. The last accident was on Wednesday, today is Monday. He is also 100% dry all night every night. So, I'm calling it a done deal. Thank goodness. All ready for our next San Diego trip in three weeks time. We told him that he had to wear underwear if he wanted to go to San Diego and that provided the necessary incentive. His body was long since ready -- we just had to provide some motivation for the mind!
