We made our first trip to the St. Louis Zoo (finally, eh?!) on the Columbus Day holiday. To be fair, we have passes to the San Diego Zoo and go there many times during each of our trips home, so any other zoo is pretty much a write-off. However, you make the best of what you've got, right? It was tiny and in no way comparable to San Diego, but it still made for a great day out and we both had a wonderful time together.
And I hate to admit it, but at the end of the day as we stood in the parking lot, Kellan looked back and said, "Mommy, this zoo is better than San Diego!". When you're four, there's a lot to be said for things being close together and a zoo that is a manageable size. Small scale isn't a bad thing when you're small scale yourself!
Kellan got a puffin and a t-shirt as his souvenirs. Here he is posing with the puffin outside of the penguin and puffin exhibit.
Riding the train.
Riding the carousel.
Lunch!
This was hilarious. Look at his face. "You want me to touch it???" He was convinced that it was a real snake. The eggs were the selling point for him.
And now he's happy to have discovered that I wasn't actually trying to orchestrate his demise!
They were getting ready for their Halloween zoo nights. This was one of the decorations. I'm not sure if Kel is smiling or making a scary face.
After the zoo, we had to eat at our favourite restaurant of all time, the Old Spaghetti Factory. A treat when we go to St Louis. It was a great day, start to finish.
